The University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, popularly known as UVCE, is an engineering college affiliated to Bangalore University, located in Bangalore, India. The college was established in 1917, by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. The college is approved by the AICTE and the Government of Karnataka. The departments are accredited with five A+ for three years by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi. UVCE is ranked 24th in Best Engineering colleges in India as per survey conducted by India Today and Nielsen companyfor the year 2011.
The admission of students to the undergraduate courses is on the basis of merit through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the state government. The entrance to post-graduate courses is through the Degree, GATE and entrance test results.
Every year, nearly 450 students graduate at the under-graduate level from five disciplines. Among the engineering colleges in Karnataka, UVCE was the earliest to have offered post-graduate courses.

In 1917, the then Diwan of Mysore Sir M. Visvesvaraya felt a need to have an engineering college in the state as the Civil Engineering College Madras and College of Engineering Poona were unable to accommodate enough students from Mysore State. He started the college in 1917 in Bangalore. It was started as Government Engineering College with 20 students in Civil and Mechanical engineering branches in the PWD building. It was the fifth engineering college to be started in India and the first one in Mysore State. In 1965, the name of the college was changed to University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering after its founder.[1][2]
Around 150 service, product and research organizations visit the campus for recruitment every year. Usually placements start when the student enters the seventh semester and lasts until graduation.
Along with the placements, internships are offered for the students from organizations such as Philips, Intel, TI, Juniper, Cisco, IBM ISL, RSA, Netapp, HP, Citrix, NDS, and Samsung
A mega reunion of UVCE alumni was held on January 2 and 3, 2011, at Gayatri Vihar, Palace Grounds, Bangalore.
